What this cut list assumes

Box
Frameless (European-style) 3/4″ plywood carcass, 30″ tall and 12″ deep (11 3/4″ sides plus the 1/4″ back). A 3/4″ × 4″ hanging rail sits inside, under the top and against the back.
Material
3/4″ plywood for the box, shelf and doors. The back is 1/4″ plywood, applied — glued and stapled or screwed over the back edges of the sides, bottom and top. Full width and height of the box. No dado, no rabbet.
Joinery
Top, bottom and shelves sit between the sides, so they are 1 1/2″ narrower than the box. Full top and bottom, plus a hanging rail. Shelves are 1/8″ narrower than the opening and set back 1″ from the front edge. Two shelves.
Doors
Two full-overlay 3/4″ plywood slab doors, 1/16″ gap at each outside edge and 1/8″ between the pair. Door height is the box height minus 1/8″.
Saw
1/8″ kerf and 0″ edge trim. Grain is locked on every part. Length in the parts table always runs with the grain.

How many sheets does a 30-inch wall cabinet take?

Two: one 4×8 sheet of 3/4″ plywood for the box, shelf and doors, and one sheet of 1/4″ plywood for the back. The 3/4″ sheet comes out 65% used. The back uses 20% of its sheet, so nest several cabinets’ backs together when you build a run.

Questions

How do you hang a wall cabinet with a 1/4-inch back?

Through the hanging rail. In this template, a 3/4″ × 4″ rail sits inside the box under the top, tight against the back. Screw through the rail and the back into the wall studs. Never hang a cabinet from the 1/4″ back alone.

Why does the wall cabinet get a full top instead of stretchers?

Because the top of a wall cabinet shows when you look up, and it carries the box’s shape. A full 3/4″ top and bottom make the box rigid and give you a clean surface for crown or a light rail.

Can I make this wall cabinet 36 or 42 inches tall?

Yes. Change the box height and recalculate three parts: the sides (the new height), the back (30″ × the new height) and the doors (the new height − 1/8″). Add a third shelf on 42″ boxes. The widths stay the same.

Do these doors line up with the 30-inch base cabinet doors?

Yes. Both use (30″ − 1/4″) ÷ 2 = 14 7/8″ doors with the same gaps, so the door edges line up between the uppers and lowers when the boxes are stacked on the same centerline.

Can I change the width?

Yes. In CutBore, change the top, bottom, hanging rail, shelf and door widths. Top, bottom and hanging rail = W − 1 1/2″. Shelf = W − 1 5/8″. Back = W. A pair of doors = (W − 1/4″) ÷ 2 each. The sides don’t change.
