What this cut list assumes

Box
Frameless (European-style) 3/4″ plywood carcass, 30 1/2″ tall and 23 1/4″ deep (23″ sides plus the 1/4″ back). With a 4″ toe kick and a 1 1/2″ countertop, that gives a 36″ counter height. The doors add 3/4″, so the face of the doors sits 24″ from the wall. Toe kick is a separate 4″ base or cabinet legs — not in this cut list.
Material
3/4″ plywood for the box, shelf and doors. The back is 1/4″ plywood, applied — glued and stapled or screwed over the back edges of the sides, bottom and top. Full width and height of the box. No dado, no rabbet.
Joinery
Bottom and shelf sit between the sides, so they are 1 1/2″ narrower than the box. Two 4″ stretchers at the top, front and back. The shelf is 1/8″ narrower than the opening and set back 1″ from the front edge.
Doors
One full-overlay 3/4″ plywood slab door, 1/16″ gap at each outside edge. Door height is the box height minus 1/8″.
Saw
1/8″ kerf and 0″ edge trim. Grain is locked on every part. Length in the parts table always runs with the grain.

How many sheets does a 24-inch base cabinet take?

Two: one 4×8 sheet of 3/4″ plywood for the box, shelf and doors, and one sheet of 1/4″ plywood for the back. The 3/4″ sheet comes out 72% used. The back uses 16% of its sheet, so nest several cabinets’ backs together when you build a run.

Questions

Should a 24-inch base cabinet get one door or two?

One, in this template. A single 23 7/8″ door is fine on a 24″ box and saves a pair of hinges. Some shops switch to a pair at 24″ so the doors swing less into the room; for a pair, each door is (24″ − 1/4″) ÷ 2 = 11 7/8″.

Why is the shelf 1/8″ narrower than the bottom?

So it drops onto the shelf pins without binding. The bottom is fixed between the sides at 22 1/2″; the shelf is 22 3/8″, leaving 1/16″ on each side for the shelf to go in and out.

Can I turn this into a drawer base?

Yes, but the cut list changes. Drop the shelf and door, add drawer fronts sized to your drawer layout, and add drawer box parts on 1/2″ or 5/8″ stock. The box parts (sides, bottom, stretchers, back) stay the same.

Where does the 24-inch box go if I need a dishwasher next to it?

Next to a 24″ opening for the dishwasher, which has no cabinet. Check your dishwasher’s install sheet for the exact opening it needs before you build; the countertop runs across it.

Can I change the width?

Yes. In CutBore, change the bottom, shelf and door widths. The rest and the saw list update as you type. Bottom and stretchers = W − 1 1/2″. Shelf = W − 1 5/8″. Back = W. One door = W − 1/8″. The sides don’t change.
